Just wanted to let you guys know if you are looking for another game sort of like Westbound, I found one called "Township" last night you might want to try. (Yes I know I'm a traitor, but I need a new challenge!) It's pretty cool with animations and and a lot more dynamic than Westbound. People are walking around, swimming in the water, riding bikes, etc. You grow crops, feed the animals like cows, chickens, and sheep, they give milk, eggs, and wool, Then you make bread, cheese, fabrics, etc. Once you have the products made then you deliver orders to people with the helicopter to earn your currency. There is also a train that you load with products and it brings back buliding supplies.
I guess the closest equivalent to pickaxes is cash, but you earn that in game MUCH more often than you get pickxes in Westbound. No harvesting houses to earn gold and cash which is nice. You just have to keep building houses to add more people to the town. Yes, there are in game purchases for cash and gold, but so far it doesn't seem like it will be nearly as expensive as Westbound. You can also connect with facebook and play the same game on multiple devices, give/get gifts from friends, and receive help laoding items on the train if you don't have them.
